Their dedication as volunteers sets them apart and creates a unique bond. \n\n\n     Lark & Spur is an acoustic sextet known for their sophisticated blend of jazz standards\, Celtic and French folk songs\, gypsy swing\, bossa nova and Broadway tunes. Originally formed as a duo\, when Lori Decker and Jeff Whiteley began performing on the streets of European cities like Paris and Munich\, their captivating sound led to appearances on French radio and television and invitations to European jazz festivals such as Montreux\, Brienz\, and Deauville. Over time\, the group expanded to include additional guitars\, piano\, double bass\, and percussion. SUMMARY:Psalm 42
DESCRIPTION:The Choral Arts Society of Utah and Orchestra is performing Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 and other choral selections under the baton of Graduate Teaching Assistant Lauren Tien\, at Libby Gardner Concert Hall\, Saturday\, October 22\, 2022\, at 7:30 pm. \nThe concert celebrates the beauty of the rural and pastoral. The connections between self\, nature\, and deity are the central focus of the texts and music featured in this program\, which includes the compositions of Aaron Copland\, Randall Thompson\, and Felix Mendelssohn. The sounds you will hear span a range between American folk and high romantic German art music\, all with the poetic intention of reflecting human experience through the imagery and metaphors that nature provides. Mendelssohn was particularly proud of his sacred work\, “Psalm 42\,” referring to the piece as his “very best sacred composition.” The text of the 42nd psalm provides vivid visual and sensual imagery of the hart (stag or deer) and fresh water. At the outset\, the hart cries out for fresh water\, but the water only comes in the form of tears\, rushing waters\, waterspouts\, and billows. Join us in enjoying this masterpiece that will be presented in its complete form on October 22nd\, in Libby Gardner Hall. \nNow in its 35th year\, the Choral Arts Society of Utah’s 100-voice choir is based in Salt Lake City. In June this year\, the choir performed a series of concerts in France\, including participating in the ceremonies at the American and British Cemeteries in Normandy. The choir’s most recent performance celebrated the pioneer spirit in Salt Lake’s Abravanel Hall for the 25th performance of the Days of ’47 KUTV Pops Concert. Many of the choir’s performances are benefit concerts for schools and organizations providing humanitarian services to local areas. It is a free event\, and parking is free under the plaza. This is a community concert\, focused on honoring our men and women in uniform both the past and present and highlights the soldiers\, airmen\, and civilian employees who have excelled in their service to this country. This concert also gives the many Veterans and their families in our community\, the opportunity to stand up and be counted during the Armed Forces Salute.  \n\n\nThe plaza opens at 5:00 pm for food and face-painting fun for the kids.  The 23rd Army Band Rock Band (Article 15) takes the stage at 6:15\, and the main concert starts at 7:00 P.M. The concert will include a variety of music including patriotic favorites you love to hear\, and it ends with a rousing rendition of John Philip Sousa’s Stars & Stripes Forever.  \n\n\nBring the family and enjoy plenty of food\, fun\, support service booths\, and great entertainment. The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs will honor outstanding servicemembers and employees from military units across Utah.  The choir will also perform “Prayer for Ukraine” as a memorial tribute to the loss of life and the devastation that continues. \n\n\nThe Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band has played for Presidents\, Senators\, Congressmen\, and Heads of State.  Each year the Band performs for thousands of people across the State of Utah and the United States\, giving clinics and concerts for schools\, playing at civic functions\, marching in parades\, and providing music for military dances\, changes of command\, and pass-in-reviews.  The Rock Band\, Article 15 will take you back to whatever generation you are from and consists of 2 guitar players\, a bass guitar player\, a keyboard player\, a percussionist\, and vocalists.  \n\n\nNow in its 37th year\, members of the 110-voice Choral Arts Society of Utah volunteer their time and talents to provide quality performances\, many of which benefit schools and organizations offering humanitarian services to the local area. \n\n\nSpecial thanks to our sponsors who make this event possible; Northrop Grumman\, The Joseph and Kathleen Sorenson Legacy Foundation\, The Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation\, Salt Lake County ZAP\, The Gallivan Center\, and KUTV 2News.
