Sterling Poulson, music director and conductor of the Days of ’47 KUTV Pops concert since 1997, invites you to join the Choral Arts Society of Utah, Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band, and guest vocalist Lauren Gruwell for two great nights of fabulous music from the 30s to the 21st Century. The 100-voice choir and band will wind back the clock, performing hits the big band era, the rock and roll era, and music from 21st-century films. You will also be treated to your favorite patriotic and inspirational music depicting the courage of humankind.
The 23rd Army Band has played for presidents, senators, members of Congress, and heads of state. The group performs for thousands of people, giving clinics and concerts at schools, performing at civic functions, marching in parades, and providing music for military dances, changes of command, and pass-in-reviews, according to the group’s website (23rdArmyBand.com). “Our job is to go out and provide musical support for the military, as well as the community,” said band commander Denny Saunders. “We go into communities and we play concerts to promote patriotism.”
Lauren Gruwell won the Voice of Utah Competition and was an American Idol Finalist in the city of Seattle. She was selected to sing the national anthem at a Utah Jazz Game and has worked as a professional studio musician for various artists and composers throughout the state. She recently recorded her debut EP, Beauty for Ashes, with an award-winning producer in Utah. Her music can be heard on FM 100.3, the sounds of Sunday.
